On Friday evening the Tayport FC squad of 1996 along with committee members past and present and faithful club supporters gathered in the recently renovated Oswald lounge at the Canniepairt to mark 25 years since Tayport won the Scottish Junior Cup for the first time.
All the players who played at Fir Park against Camelon Juniors on 12th May 1996 were in attendance. The manager who guided the club to this achievement in 96 and now Chairman Dave Baikie opened the evening. On the night those in attendance heard from former club secretary Albert Oswald, former Tayport FC goalie coach Dave Nicholl and the President of Dundee Rotary Club David Adam. The current committee took the opportunity to hand out four honours on the evening. Albert Oswald received the accolade of Honorary Club Secretary while Sandy McDade, Jim McDade and Andy Bell were awarded Honorary Club Members. All four gentlemen received the Honorary titles after many years of service and dedication to the club. They received their awards from Cup winning captain of 96 Sean Wilkie.
Before the evening was out the Scottish Junior Cup entered the room to a loud roar and the players of 96 enjoyed being reunited with the cup once again.
A great night celebrating this wonderful achievement in the club's history that will never be forgotten.
Thank you to everyone that attended and contributed to the evening.
